From the desk of Dr. Jake...
I remember the first time I really heard about attachment theory. I was newly in recovery, and my therapist mentioned a book titled "Addiction as an Attachment Disorder." Something in the title of this book piqued my interest. I felt like even the title alone was saying something that I already knew deep within — something I'd not yet had the words or concepts to express, yet something that struck me as fundamentally true.
I read that book by Dr. Philip Florez and my eyes were opened to the power of Attachment Theory. I came to realize the way in which our early relational experiences shape our development, and the many ways this story can play out across a life.
So taken by the theory, I went on to study in depth many of the attachment-based models for both individual and couple therapy, the related fields of interpersonal neurobiology and affect regulation, and utilized this knowledge in my own doctoral research and the development of my Couple–Centered Recovery© Model.
That's why I'm thrilled to put together this webinar in which I can introduce you to The Story of Attachment. I anticipate the information I share will empower you with greater awareness and skill as you continue to shape your own story.
I hope to see you then!
